Easter Weekend

I love long weekends. Especially when mothers nature spoils us with such beautiful weather. It's warm, sunny and the air is full of spring smells. It's time to clean out that garage, rack up the last of those fall leaves and get your hands dirty in the garden.

I'm participating in dig this chick's 'Virgin Harvest' of 2010 by growing something different this year. I've chosen to grow 'romanesco' broccoli and 'walla walla' onions among all my other goodies I've chosen for this year. I get all my seeds online from The Cottage Gardener and they offer a wide variety of heirloom options for both vegetables and flowers. As well most of their seeds are either organic or certified organic, which I love.

But enough about my gardening and onto my Easter recipe. I didn't do anything fancy, more nostalgic than anything. Hot Cross buns. I remember eating these as a kid and liked them for the most part, however I used to dig through and pick out all the pieces of candied peel because I did not like them at all. So when I made them, I used raisins instead of peel and I loved the way they turned out. I actually used the brioche recipe from Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day, which you can find here along with the Hot Cross Bun variation. Happy Easter!
